Part2
The prince is an interesting character. He is naïve yet at some point he is wise. While his naivety could kill him (getting trick by the snake) his words of wisdom (philosophy) could leave an adult person stunned.  He sees things that other people usually don’t; as evident to the drawing of the author that he can decipher (boa constrictor). He seems to be a curious fellow; he is not shy to ask. He seems to be diligent to keep his planet clean by cutting any baobabs that grows on his land. He loves his rose very much. He would take great care of it.

He led a long sheltered life as a result of being alone in his planet (he is not from Earth. Therefore, he is an Alien) Thus there are many things he doesn’t know about. Love was one of them; he has a fall out with his rose after she lied to him. She never appreciates him.  He is quite forgiving since he forgave rose. And so he went on an adventure due to curiosity. He is willing to take advices. Brave in a sense that he don’t mind to travel alone. In his adventure he learns a lot of things. Like the reason why his rose was much more unique than the other rose; an encounter from a fox. It is stated he misses the rose dearly and wants to come back. Due to his “young” mental state, he seems a little bratty at times demanding for answers and drawings from the author. He seems to hate the adult thinking of value, like the author. Like any everybody else, he has doubts (about his rose specifically) (as evident to the fox chapter). That’s what made him human. He could just a spirit in nature. Generally, that what people will think….and they will just stop there.

I speculate that he is the personification of the author’s childhood; the creative part of his mind. The journey that was done by the Prince might be the author’s journey through life but in the eyes of his “child in him”. It is stated that the author was dehydrated and was lost in a Sahara desert (the story was inspired by his survival in the Sahara). It is therefore possible that the Prince was just a mirage vision of his past, telling him to maybe take on his arts. When he finally found water the prince presumably dies (bitten by a snake) and disappears. Which means; the author hydrated and therefore cured from the delusion of mirage. The rose could be a personification of his wife or past lover. Since, the rose plays hard to get- a tactic commonly used for courting. The meaning of the departure of the prince could be that if you play hard to get for too long you lover could leave you. There are 2 observation of relationship in this;

1) don’t take your lover for granted.
 2) Lingering feelings of your lover could distract your journey.

In my opinion, the story (the ending especially) could be perceived in 4 different interpretations;

1)        1) Loss of his childhood because he has “Matured” and can’t go back. Thus he mourns for the prince. It is speculated that the prince is a part of the author. We should enjoy our childhood.

2)       2) It’s just a reminder/vision that the author should not take his creative mind for granted.

3)       3)  How losing a friend could be tragic. Imaginary or not.

4)           4) The prince is just a spirit that reminds him about his creative mind who maybe sees the world in the right way.” One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye.”

Moss

Moss- maternal love
One sentence: An overprotective single parent interrogating his daughter’s date for the prom.
Ryotaro Dojima was one of those people who were blessed with an uncanny ability to interrogate suspect to admit their wrong doings without going overboard. A talent like that is rare. After all, the police can't use illegal means to make people confess so Ryotaro's skill was highly appreciated.

Ryotaro drew in a sigh before he throws a venomous glare at the suspect. And so his interrogation started.

"Okay, let’s start with something easy first, what is your name?"Ryotaro question with an intimidating tone.

"Haruka Ryusaki, sir"

"Okay Haruka,how old are you?"

"I'm 16" the suspect cowers in fear as he answers

"What are your hobbies?"

"I er...like to play basketball...and ermmm-"

"Screw around?" Ryotaro simply cut, cracking his knuckles.

"No!" Haruka replied in horror.

"Really?Care to give me some evidence?" Ryotaro’s suggestion dripped with poison.

"I ermm..."

"Thought so-"

"No really! I am still a virgin"the boy cried as he says the last detail softly. His eyes glued to the floor- a sign of his dignity, breaking.

"Then prove it!"

"...how?"

Ryotaro paused and blinked for a moment to think 'Wait...I don't know how either...’
"Arggh never mind...let’s just go to the next question, where did you meet the victim?"

"The victim?"

"Yes the victim now,ANSWER ME!"

"In-school-sir!"

"How long have you been seeing the victim?"

"Ermm...2 years?"

"What? 2 years?"

The awkward silence filled the air.

"I 'm sorry" Haruka breaks the silence, trying to ease the tensed air.

"Tch...Never mind," Ryotaro shrugged though he looked a little hurt."Did you have physical contact with the victim?"

"Ermm..."

"DID YOU OR DID YOU NOT!"Ryotaro practically roared

"Yes!We-kissed...once"the suspect admitted bitterly.

Ryotaro cringe at the suspect, holding back his anger as he continues.

"Tch...What are your motives coming here and admit your crimes? "

"My crimes?"

"Yes, your crimes! Do I have to repeat myself?"

"No Sir! I just want to ermm..."

"What?Ruin her life?"

"No! I-"

Rape her?"

"NO!"

"Then WHAT?"

"Iamjusttakinghertotheprom!"

"SAY IT CLEARLY!"

"I ...am just taking...her to the prom"

"You-"

"Dad? What are you doing?" Nanako asked as she appeared in a beautiful crimson red strapless dress.

"Oh...ermm...just getting to know your date..." Guilt stuck the detective when he replied with only the half truth. After all, telling his daughter that he was interrogating her date would only lead her giving his dad a long silent treatment. Which was not what he was going for .After all a small white lie wouldn't hurt right? Especially, if it was for a good cause.

"Oh...okay! Come on Haruka! We have to go!" Nanako chimed as she walked down the stairs with her signature smile plastered on her face.

Haruka's fear evaporated almost immediately by the sight of Nanako's beauty. Haruka quickly stood up (with a goofy smile stretch across his face), took her hand and lead her to the door.
Ryotaro was about to protest on the action of the boy but he resigned himself when he saw a genuine smile on Nanako's face as the boy held her hand.

Nanako asked her father to take a picture of her and her date. Ryotaro reluctantly did what he was told to do. After that he gave a poisonous glare to Haruka with an obvious message of "I'm watching you”. With that Haruka was struck back to reality and his smile turned nervous.

"Nanako...have fun" The detective said as he threw a final glare towards Haruka before closing the door and wave his goodbyes.

"Kids these days grow up too fast," Ryotaro sighed as he retreated to the kitchen to grab a bottle of beer.

Blue Periwinkle

Blue Periwinkle - Early friendship,Early attachment

The roaring of thunder sends an omniscient sign of rain. Street lights flickers in an eerie pattern, it did almost nothing to illuminate the empty street. The rustling of leaves gives an impression that something is going to happen….something bad. I can’t shake this feeling of dread. With every footstep I take, my instincts heightened.

Sensing my fear, Dave gave me a cocky smile and said “It’ll be fine. It’s just a simple job. Give the package and just get out of there.”  I nodded curtly, trying to reassure myself with his words. I took a deep breath to calm myself down. Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breat- *uck this shit! Whoever says that taking a deep breath helps to calm one’s nerve is obviously drunk. The butterflies in my stomach isn’t going anywhere, if anything, they are increasing and laughing. My stomach emits a rumbling sound in agreement. Damn! They are definitely laughing at me.

For the millionth time I asked myself why am I doing this. ‘Because you ran out of money that’s why’ my mind automatically answers sarcastically. Great! Now I am talking to myself. The next thing I know I’ll go crazy and start a murder rampage on-

“Almost there,” Dave grunted to himself, interrupting my internal dialog.

He lifts his right index finger and point at the direction of an alleyway, “Let’s get this over with”

I nodded in agreement and began to motion my heavy legs towards the alleyway. No more second thoughts. I want to do this. No, I need to do this.

With every step I take- the temperature, which comes in contact with by bare skin- drop colder and colder. I started to shiver, whether from cold or fear, I can’t say. The rotting garbage was strewn along the path ways- making it hard to navigate around.   To make things worse, the horrible stench of garbage has woven itself with the cold air. Any signs of life were indicated by the sounds of movement-of creaking, shuffling, cracking- that bounces off the wall. Mice, cockroach and other vermin could be seen scurrying off as Dave and I move. I tried-no, I don’t want to think of what I plunge my shoes into. Is that a mouse carcass? I swear myself out. Dave seems unfazed about this environment. His face was unreadable poker. Sig-gagging to myself, I began to breathe through my mouth.

Suddenly, I hear a foreign sound. A soft strange sound. A soft muffled sound.
“Hey, Dave you hear that?” I asked, whispering.
“*uck Carter! If you’re having cold feet just-“
“No, really! Can you hear something?”
“No shit Carter, only your *ucking crazy babbling!”
“I’m telling you! There’s a-“
“What? Ghost?!” his words drip in sarcasm.
“Its...I don’t know okay? There is something!”
“Quit wastin’ time!”
“But- Aargh just wait here,” giving up, I gave him a frustrated look, and then quickly I pivot my body around to the direction of the sound-wanting to prove him wrong. I scan through the garbage for any clue of what am I looking for. With nothing out of the ordinary, I just relied only on my ears. As the sound got louder-which indicate I was nearer-, I began to recognize that sound. I hasten my search.

The sound echoes from a huge garbage dump. I took a deep breath and a quickly roll my sleeves up. I started scavenging for the source of the sound. After pulling out a few plastic of decomposing food, I found what I was looking for. I sighed in relieve that it’s still alive….Albeit a little blue due to being crushed by a few piles of plastic but it should be okay. I slowly take it to my arms and run back to Dave.

“See, toldja!” I smirk triumphantly as I cradle it, soothing it to sleep.
“Congrat! You got yourself a child, now leave it,” Dave snorted.

At that moment the baby began to wail, as if he understands what Dave has said.
“*uck! Make it stop!”Dave shouted to compete with the baby’s wailing.
“I’m trying” I replied softly as I rock the baby on my arms.
“Shut it up!” Dave threatened pulling out his gun from his pocket and pointed it at me…more specifically at the baby. A wave of emotion came over-shock, fear, angry, sad, disappointment, protective-in a single nano-second.

Without a second more to lose, my instinct kick in, quickly I held the baby closer. My stance immediately turned protective-buying me some time to calm the baby. I gently shushed the baby. Whispering sweet nothing to him. But no avail.

“You know what? *UCK THIS! I am doing this job myself and you can go screw that thing!” Dave screamed as he stomps off to do the job.
Wide-eyed, I stare blankly at his back until the darkness eats his image up. After that, the baby wail came to a halt.

“You don’t like him much do you?”I ask knowingly to the baby, giving her a fond smile.
I made a makeshift bed on the cold concrete floor (from trash bags) for the baby. I strip my hoodie off my back to give warm for the baby. Walking in the alleyway topless and getting flu is much better than a baby dying of cold. Better me than her.

“I’ll be right back, I need to apologize and help him, he is after all my best friend and he is nice if you get to know him,” I smiled warmly before gently put her there.

I ran hastily towards the direction of Dave. When I saw him in my line of sight, I was about to apologized when-
BANG
A clear ring of gunshot was heard. I saw Dave dropped on the cold cemented ground like a puppet whose strings have just got cut. I muffled my gasp with my hands making sure I don’t make a sound.

Dave was drench in blood-his blood. His whole body was shivering, whether of blood loss or fear, I can’t tell. His hazel orbs were dilating-stricken in even more fear- as the shuffling of footsteps began to draw nearer and nearer. His completion grew paler by the second.  He mouths a plea of help to my direction. Unfortunately, my fear looms heavily on my back, thus paralyzing me from moving.

In the corner of my eyes I saw a man clad in a black trench coat walking casually towards Dave. He was holding a gun-presumably the gun he used to kill Dave. He has a short spiky hair, eyes that crazy people have and a tight calm smile. He uses his right leg to step on Dave’s head. Daves’s eyes widen, fearing on what is to come. The man’s calm smile contorted into a menacing frown. He pulled the trigger and…Dave’s eyes turned dull with death.

With no time to mourn, I snapped myself out of my panicked reverie. I made a 180 degrees turn and quickly bolted. Hearing my frantic footsteps the man, quickly turned his attention to me. He began giving a barrage of bullets for me to dodge and avoid. At this point adrenaline started to course into my veins. With every step I made, was a miracle by itself. With every second I survive was a blessing by itself. If there was a time to believe in God; now was the time. I can hear some of the bullets singing death threats over my ears. I can feel the force of air created by the cutting of bullets grazing on my skin.

I saw the baby in my line of sight and quickly-as if practiced- I scooped the baby up and continue running without changing my speed. Not caring if the baby cries. I would push some rubbish dump to obstruct the way in the hopes of slowing my assailant down.
Even out of the alleyway I still continue running. I ran and ran and ran and ran….until my legs gave out and the adrenaline wasn’t enough to keep me standing. Thankfully, the assailant stopped perusing me.

I sat by the road. Panting and wheezing, trying to catch my breath. Soon, my adrenaline ran dry. My whole body sore. Sweat; coming out from every pores of my body. Slowly, my emotions caught up to me. Tears start dropping out of my eyes. How ironic, those tears are both meant for mourning a death of a friend and a celebration of surviving. For what it’s worth, I gained a friend.

I looked at the baby with a smile, tears still dreaming down.

How funny, I saved you….. And you saved me. Fate could be funny.

One sentence:A poor man who gained an unlikely friend(baby) by losing(death) one friend in a process (work)

Adonis

The uncomfortable sensation of lights prickling through my eyelids has awoken me from my dreamless sleep. Still refusing to open my eyes, I motion my right arm to check the other side of the bed. Feeling nothing but a cold spot, I sighed in disappointment.

I

Slowly, I open up my eyes. The prickling pain slowly subsides as my eyes adjusted to the light. Shifting my body weight to my pelvis, I gradually push my torso up. I place my feet down to feel the floor. I gave myself a little shiver to adjust myself to the cold marble. Groggily, I stood up and out of bed, making a beeline to the shower. A clothes trail could be seen in there. I turn on the cold water; letting it drum my back. It helps me to wake up all the part of my body that was still asleep. I take a bar of soap and quickly clean myself. Cursing; once in a while when the soap slipped off my fingers. After that I took some shampoo and applied it to my hair. Doing a quick massage on my scalp, I began to stare blankly at the wall tile, just to avoid my thoughts. I quickly rinse through my hair. Then I got out of the shower and began to dry myself. With a towel hanging on my hips I started to brush my teeth. Brush and Rinse. Brush and Rinse. Brush and Rinse. Thrice. I’ve always do it thrice. Due to a force of habit, I’ve always forget to take my clothes first. So I got out of the bathroom and calmly made my way to my drawer to fetch myself some clean clothes. Usually I always take anything on top. No matter how ugly it looks or how the colours clash.

am

I tried to remember all my orders as I make breakfast and coffee. After the sixth burned pancake I successfully made another eight. Feeling proud of myself I mentally pat myself in the back as I set the table. “Maple syrup, fork…and coffee” I whispered to myself.

leaving

So breakfast started. I began to fork my pancakes and quickly wolf it down. To prevent myself from choking, I use the coffee as a lubricant to ease the pancakes’ travel to my stomach.  Once breakfast is done, I wash up the plates and utensils. At last, my morning ritual is done. I made my way to my door and took out a random pair of shoes. As I was tying my shoe lace, a drip of water fell onto my right shoe. Confuse and panic, I search for the source of leak.

you....

To my surprise it wasn’t the wall or the ceiling that leak. And for some reason I couldn't stop it. It won’t stop. No matter how much I curse or swear or try to fix it, it just won’t stop. I know why it won’t stop but knowing doesn’t mean it’s the solution. Sometimes…it’s the reason.

Damn...

I can’t stop crying….
