EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: : Who was the genius who thought of putting a ring in a cake was proposing was a good  idea of surprise? Martha Steward? Those badly made Rom com? That guy must be high on crack cause they haven’t thought the possibility that the ring might get eaten. All I wants to do was to do a surprise proposal to my girlfriend….Was that really too much to ask?

STORY / SCRIPT TITLE: The Chase

1 SENTENCE SUMMARY:

Ryan wants to marry his girlfriend so he bake a cake and put a ring in it- to surprise her in her birthday- but unfortunately she ate it, he wants to retain the element of surprise so goes great length to get it back but he failed, Jaime went on  fit of hiccup and expel the ring out of the apartment, Ryan tries to get it but a hobo got it 1^st and they got into a fight which Ryan won but lands him  in jail for fighting but was bailed by his girlfriend and he finally propose.

SYNOPSIS:

It all started innocently when he bakes his girlfriend cake and putting a ring inside to do a surprise proposal. But things couldn’t come easier for Ryan when his girlfriend ate the cake slice with ring in it. He failed in getting the ring out discreetly until (un)fortunately the ring was expelled out of Jaime’s stomach when she had a huge fit of hiccup. From there on it snow balls itself down till he is in jail. Was today a keep-Ryan-from-proposing day? No, couldn’t be Ryan checked but it sure felt like it when he land himself in jail while trying to get his proposal ring back from a hobo who took it.

SCENE 1:

INT.POLICE STATION, MUGSHOT ROOM. DAWN

Camera flashes.Ryan’s Mugshot is being taken in a police station.Ryan is battered and bruised

  Ryan(narration)

This definitely not how I picture myself in the last 6 hours. What I envision was me in my bed with my girlfriend …making love..Probably right about….now …How did it happen,why did it happen, you may ask. Well, it all started with a ring…

SCENE 2:

CUT TO: Kitchen.Close up shot to a cake batter MORNING

Ryan puts a ring in the cake batter and smiles and put it in a oven. A banner comes down with a writing “Happy Birthday Jaime”. The apartment getting decorated, cake appears on the table, guest and, Ryan and Jaime were in the middle and a cake between them, slowly appearing in a transition style. The morning turned evening.

Ryan and Jaime seem to talk happily. Jaime cracks a funny joke and Ryan seems to laugh which distract both of them. While Ryan is still distracted laughing, Jaime swallow a piece of cake that the ring could be seen. She drinks a can of beer to smooth the full throat. Ryan was too late to stop her. His laugh died on his lips. He was stunned and shock on what is happening. He quickly recovers. She hiccups.

Ryan (smiling on the face but frantically thinking)

What should I do? I don’t want to ruin the surprise…but….

Jaime

….And I told her-or him if you want to be politically correct-that it’s totally not an obsession! It’s just a concentrated form of adoration!

(Looks at Ryan with a worried face)

Hun, are you okay?

Ryan

Oh errr I’m fine! I was just wondering would you like a dance?

Jaime

Oh! Okay!
(Takes Ryan hand and go dancing with Ryan)

ACT2 (CONFRONTATION)

SCENE 3:

Ryan and Jaime dance tango. Ryan starts twirling her a lot.
Ryan( internal thoughts)

I hope this works….

They dance for a long time and Ryan was sweating and tired. Jaime on the other hand was just having fun. (Fast forward screen or time skip).Jaime spot old friends and she wanted to go there and catch up with them. Ryan lets her go and he fell on the floor tired. He took a moment to recover then follow Jaime. He hug Jaime from the back and squeeze her hard. She hiccups

SCENE 4:

Jaime (smiles playfully)

Hey not too hard.

Haha don’t know my strength sometimes…

SCENE 5:

Quick Montage of his plan failing. Slapping her back jokingly and she slap his back in return and it hurt him. Putting laxative on her drink (beer), but his friend took it and drink it is for giving to her. (She was drinking in the back ground foreshadowing the events going to happen). Ryan was feeling frustrated as he was having momentary madness, Jaime in the background started hiccup fit and expel the ring to the window. Ryan saw the ring flew out of the apartment in slow motion. He looks out of the window to see where it fell and he quickly ran down to get it.

SCENE 6:

CUT TO: Outside, Night

He was too late. A homeless hobo got it 1^st.

Hobo

GOLD FELL FROM HEAVENS!!

Ryan

That’s Mine!

I got it 1^st!!ITS MINE!!!

SCENE 7:

The Hobo ran and Ryan chase after him. There a Slow mo shot. After a chase Ryan rugby tackle the hobo and they go into a fight. Kung Fu fight filled with slow mo shot and exaggerated kicks and everything. But in the end Ryan won and took the ring back.

Ryan(Punch the air up pose and did a little victory dance )

GOT IT!

Police car light appears on the back ground.

Police

You’re both under arrest for fighting!

Ryan(still Punch the air up pose frozen but smile dies)

ACT3 (RESOLUTION)

SCENE 8:

CUT TO: Jail cell

Ryan

And that’s how I got here….

Ryan was talking to the guard officer behind the bars. He was laughing in the background.

Ryan

This isn’t Funny you know?

Guard Officer

I know I Know but….hahaahahahahah

Ryan rolled his eyes. Chief Officer came in and the guard suddenly stops laughing and straighten up. Chief Officer walks in front of Ryan’s cell.

Ryan Woodwalker. You’re bailed by a lass.

Chief Officer open Ryan cell and get lead him out. As he walk out he saw the hobo in the cell.He was sleeping peacefully with a serene smile on his face..

Ryan(inner Dialog)

I guess for some people…being in jail is a blessing in disguise…at least now he will have a roof on his head…..

The guard Officer smiles as he jog near him and whisper.

A FAST MOVING CAMERA. MOVING OUT OF THE ALLEWAY TO DAVE’S POINTED INDEX FINGER.

Dave slowly motions his hand down. With a bored tone, he says

dAVE

Let’s get this over and done with

Dave starts moving into the alley with a package on his left hand. Carter was hesitating to follow but soon he joins Dave.

CUT TO:

Camera side view of the alley.

Carter feels cold. Clearly the hoodie he was wearing was not helping. The alleyway was dark; the moonlight was the only source of light. Fog was setting in. The sounds of vermin, rustling of garbage and the shuffling of footsteps seems to bounce off the walls of the Alleyway.

Cut to:

Carter lands his feet on a carcass of a mouse.

He swore himself out. Carter is creep out.

Cut to:

Camera Front view Carter shivers as he walks. Blur Dave while carter is clear in the shot.

Dave had a poker face.

CArter

Are you sure this is…well you know..Safe?

Dave

Stop being such a pussy Carter! It’s Fucking Safe! Just give the package, get the money and get the hell out.

Dave looks irritated by Carter’s hesitance. Carter kept quiet (looking down with resignation) and continue to navigate his way with Dave in front.

Cut to: Camera on the side of Carters head

Carter’s ears perk as he hears the sound. He stops walking. Dave was out of the shot. Carter’s face contorted into confused.

Hey? You hear that?

Dave rolls his eyes as he shrug. He stops walking

It’s just a rat or something

Dave voice was soft but the tone he was using was anger.

Cut to: Carter finding the source of the sound. Carter is frustrated that is best friend doesn’t believe him. He follows the sound until he reach into a big trash bin where his rummage through the trash.

Cut to top view of the trash to reveal the baby. Carter picks up the baby and jog back to Dave. He gave himself a small smile of triumph.

There…I am not crazy.

Dave

Congrats! Now you have a child…now put it back.

Cut to :As if on cue the child took offense on dave’s snide remark and wail loudly. Dave hands immediately cover his ears and carter tried his best to soothe the baby from crying.

Dave

Fuck! Make it Stop!

Carter

I’m trying! I’m Tryin’!

Dave

SHUT IT UP!!!!!!!

Dave threatened pulling out his gun from his pocket and pointed it at Carter…more specifically at the baby. A wave of emotion came over-shock, fear, angry, sad, disappointment, protective-in a single nano-second.

Without a second more to lose, Carter’s instinct kick in, quickly I held the baby closer. His stance immediately turned protective-buying me some time to calm the baby. Carter gently shushed the baby. Whispering sweet nothing to him. But no avail.

Dave

You know what? *UCK THIS! I am doing this job myself and you can go screw that thing!

Dave stomps off. Wide-eyed, Carter stares blankly at Dave’s back until the darkness eats his image up. After that, the baby wail came to a halt. Carter smile knowingly to the baby.

Carter

You don’t like him much do you?

Carter made a makeshift bed on the cold concrete floor (from trash bags) for the baby. Carter strips his hoodie off his back to give warm for the baby.

Carter

I’ll be right back, I need to apologize and help him, he is after all my best friend and he is nice if you get to know him

Carter was about to open his mouth to apologise when…

Carter saw Dave getting shot and fall down.

Dave was drench in blood-his blood. His whole body was shivering. His hazel orbs were dilating-stricken in even more fear- as the shuffling of footsteps began to draw nearer and nearer. His completion grew paler by the second. 

Cut to: Close shot Dave

He mouths a plea of help to my direction.

Cut to: back of Carter.

Unfortunately, Carter’s fear looms heavily on his back, thus paralyzing him from moving.

Carter saw a man clad in a black trench coat walking casually towards Dave. He was holding a gun-presumably the gun he used to kill Dave. He has a short spiky hair, eyes that crazy people have and a tight calm smile. He uses his right leg to step on Dave’s head. Daves’s eyes widen, fearing on what is to come. The man’s calm smile contorted into a menacing frown. He pulled the trigger and…Dave’s eyes turned dull with death

Smiling, John closes the door behind him.

Cut to: camera follow carter’s running.

 Carter snapped himself out of his panicked reverie. he made a 180 degrees turn and quickly bolted. Hearing his frantic footsteps the man, quickly turned his attention to him. He began giving a barrage of bullets for him to dodge and avoid. Carter can hear some of the bullets singing death threats over his ears. he can feel the force of air created by the cutting of bullets grazing on his skin.

Cut to: Camera on the ground with baby.

Carter saw the baby in his line of sight and quickly-as if practiced- he scooped the baby up and continue running without changing his speed. The baby cried hysterically by the sudden motion.

Cut to: camera follows the Carter.

He would occasionally push some rubbish dump to obstruct the way in the hopes of slowing his assailant down. Even out of the alleyway he still continues running. The baby started to quiet down. He stops when he finally felt tired and his legs gave out of him. He sat by the road. Panting and wheezing, trying to catch his breath. He was sweating profusely. Slowly, his emotions caught up to him. Tears start dropping out of his eyes. He was holding on to the baby quite tightly.

Cut to: Close shot of Carters’s face.

Carter look at the baby and smile, tears still streaming down.

Carter( voice over)

How ironic, those tears are both meant for mourning a death of a friend and a celebration of surviving
